AEP Ohio donates $15,000 to the ColonyTheatre restoration project
Marietta, Ohio, June 21, 2006 American Electric Power Ohio (AEP Ohio) Community Affairs Manager Paul Prater recently presented Hunt Brawley, Development Director of the Hippodrome/Colony Historical Theatre Association (HCHTA), with a $15,000 donation. We are thrilled that AEP Ohio has provided this generous donation, Brawley said. This will help us take another step forward in our goal to restore the Colony Theatre. AEP Ohio makes every effort to support non-profit organizations that play a positive role in communities within its service territories, said Prater. We are pleased to be able to contribute to this important project in Marietta. The goals of the HCHTA include restoring the Colony, with its 1,000-seat capacity and large stage, to bring sizeable national touring acts back to the mid-Ohio valley region. Local and regional musicals, concerts, comedy acts, theatre and dance performances, film series and lecturers will also be featured onstage. The Colony will become the permanent home for the River Cities Symphony Orchestra and other arts organizations. $1.6 million has been raised towards the $3.5 million goal to help restore the Colony Theatre. Once completed, the Colony Theatre will be a unique facility in a ten- to twelve-county region. The HCHTA is optimistic that construction will begin late this year. There are many opportunities for businesses, organizations and individuals to support this important arts, education and economic catalyst located in Southeast Ohio.
